Before founding Aspire Horizons, our director believed strongly that professional support could mean so much more to NSW families and individuals than the clinical, often impersonal care that she had witnessed in the industry.
It was for this reason that she knew Aspire Horizons could - and would - be responsible for providing support that went above and beyond providing just a ‘service’; instead, our entire team would work with respect and integrity to help our participants develop long-term independence on their own terms.
| The first step in this journey was already clear to our founder: cultivating community access for individuals who couldn’t access their local community on their own. Thanks to countless studies and years of experience, our founder and director knew that community participation was an incredibly effective way for individuals to develop meaningful connections and build the life skills that would empower them with confidence and self-reliability throughout the rest of their lives. | In this way, participants of our support build lasting relationships and build out their support network for an enriching life on their own terms. Although Aspire Horizons is completing the dream of our founder today, she (and now the rest of our team) still believes there’s more to do. |
An Emphasis On Developing Meaningful Life Skills |
| The second step in our founder’s journey to go beyond just clinical, impersonal support was to align Aspire Horizons personalised support with future participants’ real-world goals. Typically, most participants strive to achieve long-term independence. Our director believes the most effective way to achieve this, apart from regular, enriching community participation, is to equip our participants with vital life skills, such as interpersonal communication, household management, motor skills, finance training, hygiene and health education, and more. In turn, these skills give participants the capacity to care for themselves, manage their surroundings and ultimately instil them with the confidence to explore the world on their own terms. It’s why our support service takes that extra step to methodically and meticulously pair each participant with a hand-picked carer. Over the years, our support service has thus become a collaborative and educational journey that sees each participant learning more about the world, skills and themselves in the process. | |
Cultivating Long-Term Independence For People In Our NSW CommunityWhy is long-term independence for participants so important for our director, and now the rest of our team? Because we believe everyone should have the opportunity to decide for themselves what a meaningful and fulfilling life means to them. We view helping people to access their local community and to build life skills as the precursor steps to fostering the independence and the confidence needed to ask this question in the first place, and ultimately reach independence. |
